Meet the INTESOL StaffINTESOL staff are dedicated to providing the highest level of tuition, be it onsite or online. All trainers are well qualified in TESOL at all levels, with a wealth of experience in teaching ESOL, ESP and EAP at all levels from primary to university, plus examining for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and materials writing. INTESOL WORLDWIDE has been established since 1993 and has sold many TESOL/TEFL courses to students who have been looking for a quality, accredited TESOL course. INTESOL is run by Course Director, Lynda Hazelwood, who has vast experience in the field of teacher training in ESOL. Lynda is assisted by Technical Administrator, David Buckle who has a background in English and IT.
Lynda Hazelwood - Course Director
Lynda Hazelwood has been teaching languages since 1971. Since then she has taught in England and overseas, in both the public and private sectors, in primary, senior and adult education. She also has experience of English for Academic Purposes and materials writing at university level. Lynda has been employed by the British Council for whom she taught all levels including Cambridge exam classes and English for Specific Purposes. She has been an examiner for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and for the Pan-Hellenic Association of Language School Owners in Greece. Lynda founded INTESOL in 1993 in Bristol, England. A variety of courses and services were provided including one-to-one language tuition; adult language classes; French clubs for 5 - 11 year olds; English home stays for foreign learners and weekend introductory courses in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. The most successful of these became the weekend introductory courses in TESOL. 80% of the participants wanted to take a course, which would qualify them to teach ESOL, but most could not give up four weeks of their time to study. Lynda decided to develop course materials for home study which soon developed into the world renowned INTESOL Certificate in TESOL by distance learning. A short time later the course achieved accreditation and is now one of the most respected courses worldwide.
David Buckle - Technical Administrator
David Buckle has been working for INTESOL since 2001 and looks after the technical aspects of the business. He has a BSc in Computing and Technology, and a good knowledge of both computer hardware and software systems. David's duties cover general IT matters including website updates, maintenance of computing equipment and general technical administration tasks. He also assists in the production, printing, and sending out of prospectuses, information packs and course materials.
Leigh Beckford - Marketing Manager
Leigh's passion for teaching and travelling began at the age of 24 when she left the UK to go travelling in the Far East, Australia and Central America. Eight months travelling around South East Asia opened her eyes to the opportunities for English teachers to integrate into society and become fully involved in local culture. With a new found freedom and lease of life Leigh travelled on to Australia. Whilst there she decided to study towards her TESOL certificate with INTESOL, and within three months she was qualified to teach English as a foreign language. After a year in Australia she returned to South East Asia where she enjoyed teaching local communities in both Thailand and Cambodia. She then moved on to spend a year teaching children at a private language institute in South Korea. Her year in South Korea taught her a great deal about adapting to life in a completely different culture and she left feeling satisfied that she had developed not only as a teacher, but also as a person. Before eventually returning to the UK Leigh spent a glorious four months living on a Caribbean island called Roatan, just off the coast of Honduras. She worked part-time teaching English in a local school whilst also learning how to scuba dive.
Jean Binns - Senior Tutor
Jean has an MEd TESOL (Manchester, 1996). She has 15 years teaching experience in UK state primary, secondary and further education, 9 years in IAPS education, 10 years in state education overseas at secondary and university level. Jean is an experienced Teacher Trainer and trainer of Teacher Trainers and is also a specialist in Appraisal and Materials Design, and specialises in teaching writing skills.
Reg Burgin - Senior Tutor
Reg was born in Lancaster and has spent most of his professional life in Bath, where he now teaches foreign groups and individuals at various levels. He has worked for INTESOL since 1993.
Reg is a fully qualified languages and EFL teacher. A graduate of Sheffield University, he spent the seventies teaching English in Madrid. A one-year PGCE course at Manchester University helped him to prepare for the rigors of the English classroom, which he experienced in both Bath and the Midlands.
His hobbies include travel and ornithology.
Vincent Ferrer - Senior Tutor
Vincent has an impressive professional and academic background holding an MA in Education and English Language Teaching and The Trinity London College Licentiate Diploma in TESOL.
Of American and Spanish descent, Vincent has had a long career in TEFL / TESOL. He has had a number of teaching and managerial positions over the years: from teaching young learners to Director of Studies on EFL Summer Camps to Course Director and Academic Consultant on a number of TEFL training courses.
Vincent is the author of a number of articles on various aspects of TEFL and has been a guest speaker in international conferences and symposiums. Currently he is utterly committed to training English Language teachers and his main motivation is, in his own words, to 'better our courses constantly so that our teachers not only satisfy the demands of the market but actually make a difference when they teach'. In his free time Vincent enjoys cinema and playing old pop and rock songs on his acoustic guitar.
Jane Fairbairn - Tutor
Jane speaks French, Russian, German and Spanish, some Italian and is currently learning Japanese.
She is a degree qualified teacher in French and Russian. She also holds the Institute of Linguists translation Diploma in Russian and French to English; she is a member of the Institute of Linguists and is qualified in TEFL to Diploma level.
Jane has a wealth of experience, gained mainly in England, as an examiner for the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and for the London Chamber of Commerce. Jane still also does French and Russian Translation work, teaches onsite at college and tutors INTESOL distance trainees.
Rocco Nigro - Tutor
Rocco has been involved in the TEFL industry for over 10 years as a teacher, teacher trainer, academic manager and examiner for TOEIC. He is currently based in Brisbane, Australia and has previously worked in Japan for two years and in China from 2001 to 2003. His initial studies include a Diploma in Engineering, and afterwards he completed a Master of Applied Linguistics through Macquarie University in Australia to add to his CELTA qualification. In the future, Rocco and his family are keen to spend more time abroad as there are many more adventures to be had!
Mihaela Dascalu - Tutor
Mihaela has run many pre-service and in-service training courses both face-to-face and distance courses in Romania and Greece; and delivered workshops at many international conferences.
She has worked for a number of British Council projects on developing teacher training and training of trainers programmes. Mihaela has developed and coordinated onsite and distance training courses and has trained teachers for over thirteen years. She is the co-author of the In-service Distance Training Course for Teachers of English, British Council. She holds a Licentiate Diploma in English Language and Literature and French Language and Literature and an MA in Teaching at the School for International Training, Vermont, USA.
Being a non-native speaker of English, she has experience of being a learner of English that is invaluable for developing the native speakers' awareness of teaching their own language.
Mihaela loves music from all over the world, travelling and dancing.
Robin Essex - Director of Studies
Robin Essex is the Director for the Elim School of English at the Lakeside Centre in Southport. Robin has been involved with TEFL training of students since October 2007. Since that time he has taught through the language school some 48 different nationalities, approximateley 180+ students. His passion is to equip migrants with good skills in the English language enabling them to adapt adequately into the British way of life. Students are made to feel welcome and given help and support to a high level.
Prior to Robin being involved with TEFL in the UK, he worked overseas for 3 years in Albania (1997 - 2000), teaching children, teenagers and adults language skills. From 2000 - June 2007 he worked in Kosovo doing the same thing and was Project Director for the Elim denomination. Robin's passion is to encourage all students and trainees to reach their highest potential and takes personal interest in each of his students.
Stephen Halden - Course Director
Stephen has developed and coordinated onsite and online training courses and has trained teachers for over ten years. He holds a Licentiate Diploma, Post-Graduate Diploma, and an MA in TEFL.
Stephen has worked as a senior teacher, lead teacher-trainer and Director of Studies and training in Spain, Britain and Mexico. During this time, he has held senior academic positions in the British Council, and has worked as an Academic Consultant developing teacher training programmes for other prestigious training organizations.
Stephen loves music and used to play bass guitar in a popular band, his passion for new experience has encouraged him to travel and trek throughout the world.
Jonathan Davies - Onsite Trainer
Jonathan Davies is an experienced TESOL trainer. He qualified as a UK secondary school teacher of French, Spanish and TEFL in 1994 from Bristol University, and has worked in EFL in Spain and France ever since. He taught at the British Council from 1995 to 1997 where he gave seminars around Spain on the subject of teaching Young Learners, a growing field in the EFL world.
Jonathan now divides his time between teaching EFL at the University of Barcelona, and training at INTESOL Spain. He believes in continuing a teaching timetable whilst training teachers, so that the trainees receive the best possible input.
An ex tour guide for Spain, Jon is also a great source of information of places to visit in and around Barcelona; this enables trainees to have a truly enriching experience.
When not working or dining in one of Barcelona's wonderful restaurants, he can be found racing his bicycle around the surrounding towns and villages.
Dasi Ruz - Office Manager
Dasi, who is responsible for administrative tasks, is bilingual and has been running offices all over the world for nearly six years. She has a degree from Edith Cowan University in Australia and has been living in Spain for two years.
Joyce Seow - Director
Joyce has extensive experience in the fields of Public Relations, the Hospitality Industry and Management. She has been involved in the training and counselling of staff in various organisations and has been editor of two magazines. She trained in TEFL at the University of the Nations, Hawaii and The Australian Centre for Advance Studies, Perth Western Australia.
Prof Gregg Wareham - Lecturer Prof. Gregg Wareham received his MA/TESOL from Indiana University of
Pennsylvania (IUP).
Gregg's Asian TESOL experience began in 1995 where he taught in Kuming Yunnan, People's Republic of China (PRC). He taught at a private language centre as well as at The Yunnan Institute for Minorities, and Business English at a computer centre. Gregg also taught conversational English at Xinjiang University in Xinjiang Province (PRC).
In August 2001 he joined the faculty of Handong Global University. He taught and fronted a group of students in TESOL to work in Thailand and Cambodia.
Gregg enjoys his latest challenge as a trainer with INTESOL Singapore.
Georgina Ma - Course Coordinator
Georgina has a BA (English, Law) and Honours degree (English) from the University of KwaZulu Natal. She completed her MA in ELT at the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom and is currently doing her PhD at the University of the Witwatersrand. Georgina has more than 10 years experience in teaching English as a second and foreign language in South Africa and abroad, where she has taught in Taiwan, China and the United Kingdom.
She has been involved in teacher training and development since 2003. Georgina is a member of IATEFL (International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language) and a member of the Teacher Training and Development special interest group.
Haydn Crooks - Trainer
Haydn completed his CELTA in 2001 and is in his tenth year of English language teaching and language teacher training. After completing his teaching certificate, Haydn taught in Poland, England and South Africa. Haydn has been at Wits Language School since 2004 and has taught English as a second and foreign language.
He joined the LTE department in 2008 where he has trained on the TESOL course. Haydn loves the friendly, yet highly professional atmosphere of the Wits Language School and is proud to be part of such a dynamic organisation and team!
Bill Farquharson - Trainer
Bill has worked within English language teaching since 1999 when he took his first TEFL training certification and flew to Mexico to learn Spanish. Since then he has worked on 3 continents in a wide variety of environments including English language centres, secondary school, universities and corporate training departments. His experience includes not just teaching, but assessment, materials development and teacher training in places as diverse as Mexico, Saudi Arabia and South Africa. Bill sat the Cambridge Delta exam in December 2010 and plans to complete the other 2 modules of the diploma in 2011.
Following previous contributions to the WLS English teaching and TESOL program, Bill joined the LTE department full time in January 2011.
Mehmet Nejat Can - Director of Information Technology.
Mehmet Nejat Can was born in Amsterdam, Holland and studied both German and English for 4 years at College before graduating in Mathematics in 2000.
In 2001 he founded and directed an Information Technology Department in a Private High School.
In 2004 Nejat began working in American Cultural Association Language Schools (ACA) as an IT Specialist and English Teacher.
He was one of the executives who improved the franchising department and helped to establish ACA as the largest and most prestigious language school network in Turkey.
In August 2007 he qualified as Teacher Trainer for the INTESOL Certificate in TESOL.
Nejat is currently directing the Information Technology Department and TESOL courses at ACA.
Deborah Hudson - Director of Studies
Deborah Hudson is a native English speaker from the north of England. She worked for a number of years as a therapist in the field of Psychiatry before moving to Turkey and starting her career in teaching. She is currently working as the Director of Studies at American Cultural Association Language Schools. In her capacity as Director of Studies, Deborah is responsible for developing and implementing language programmes, training and supporting staff in their professional development and is dedicated to promoting quality language education.
Antonis Ioannou - Course Director
Born in Limassol and educated in the UK, Mr Ioannou is a holder of two degrees and a post graduate degree in Greek , English and a PGD in TEFL respectively. Mr Ioannou is one of the most experienced tutors in Teacher Training we have at Plato.
He began as a teacher of English where he taught in Greece and in Governmental Schools in Cyprus. He was promoted to deputy and then head of the English Departments of more than 8 Governmental Lycea and Gymnasia and ended as the Headmaster of Polemidia Gymnasium, a governmental high school in Limassol Cyprus . Now with more than 27 years of experience in TEFL he is an asset to the TEFL Plato Team.
Mr Ioannou has written hundreds of TEFL Materials and he is a member of ICM ,the IETFL Cyprus .

Lynn Wong - General Manager
Lynn has more than 20 years experience within the educational sector in Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. Prior to establishing The TESOL Training Centre (TTTC), Lynn was working as a Director for one of Singapore's leading Management and Consultancy Company. She holds Bachelor of Arts (Management and Economics), Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing (The Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK), Instructor TESOL Diploma (Canada), Advanced TESOL Diploma (Canada), Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (Australia). She is currently pursuing her MA in Educational Studies with one of the University in the UK.
At The TESOL Training Centre (TTTC), she is responsible for the general day-to-day management of the school, both academic and administrative. Lynn is dedicated to providing a personal and friendly service to every student attending courses with The TESOL Training Centre (TTTC). She is available to all students, to provide guidance and support when required.
Patrick Brunelle - TEFL Trainer
Patrick Brunelle graduated from Lakehead University in 2002. He received a Bachelors degree in English Literature, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Education. Patrick taught for two years in Canada, until he decided to seek a change and moved to Costa Rica. Patrick has been teaching ESL since 2005 and was one of the co-founders of Idiomas Mundiales. His vision of constantly developing curriculum, and never being satisfied with one’s knowledge allowed Idiomas Mundiales to quickly expand to three locations over the span of just a few short years. His curriculum is currently being used with companies such as Western Union.
Luke Panek - TEFL Trainer
In 1998 Luke graduated from the University of Alberta in Canada with a degree in Education. After graduation he wanted to take some time off before beginning his high school teaching career so he decided to take a TESOL course and teach English in Prague, Czech Republic. Very soon after he began teaching, Luke discovered that teaching English suited him perfectly, and it was exactly what he was looking for in the classroom. He decided in his first year teaching that he would dedicate himself to teaching ESL and would make it his career. After four more years in Europe, teaching in Rome, Prague, and France, Luke came to Costa Rica in 2003, to experience the Latin lifestyle, and has lived here ever since. Luke is currently the Director of Studies at Idiomas Mundiales English School in San Jose.
Melanie Lubinus - TEFL Trainer
Melanie is originally from South Dakota, USA. She studied Spanish, education, ESL, and Latin American Area Studies at South Dakota State University. Before moving to Costa Rica, she taught High School Spanish in California for five years. She has been teaching English at Idiomas Mundiales since completing her TEFL/TESOL certification course in Costa Rica. Melanie is passionate about teaching and has a desire to help other teachers reach their highest potential.
Georgianella Grant - Spanish Program
Georgianella Grant majored in English - Spanish Translation at the Universidad de Costa Rica. She worked as an interpreter for 3 years, mostly in the medical field. She then made a move towards the administrative field and worked for for a fortune 500 company where she noticed a significant lack regarding quality English classes for her coworkers and herself. This inspired Georgianella to co- found Idiomas Mundiales, one of the fatest growing English Language Schools in the country that specializes in corporate classes. Georgianella currently directs the Spanish program at Idiomas Mundiales.
Phil Biggerton - Course Director
Phil Biggerton has been teaching English in Europe and Asia since 1992. In the last 10 years he has specialized in IELTS and for the last three years has taught English for Academic Purposes (EAP) presessional courses at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. He also trained as an IELTS examiner and has worked for the British Council in Taipei, Taiwan as an examiner.
He has been responsible for teaching reading, writing, listening and speaking examination techniques for the IELTS test and preparing new IELTS practice material. In addition, he has also prepared and conducted placement tests for new students and helped to train new IELTS teachers.
In recent years, he has focused on developing English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses for students who have passed the IELTS test and are waiting to travel abroad to study. Apart from establishing the INTESOL agency in the Philippines, he also runs Godiva Books, a small publishing company, with the aim of helping fellow teachers and authors publish their books. He has recently published, 'IELTS - The Complete Guide to Task 1 Writing.'
