The College of Teachers
INTESOL Graduate MembershipINTESOL trainees have the option of becoming members of The College of Teachers. Formerly the College of Preceptors, the College was renamed at a launch hosted by His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh in May 1999. As mentioned before, the College is the chartered body of the teaching profession, established in 1846. It received its Royal Charter in 1849. It was founded, in the words of the charter, for the purpose of "Promoting sounds learning and of advancing the interests of education ... by affording facilities to the Teacher for the acquiring of a sound knowledge of his/her profession". Why Join?Membership of the College brings many benefits. The process of becoming a member of the College of Teachers enables applicants to understand the nature of their own professional quality and task, and to take command of its development. Members receive a number of services including the journal, Education Today, which features articles on relevant issues and research four times a year; a regular newsletter to keep members informed of developments that are important to their professional work; and a variety of concessions on such things as books, insurance and holidays.
